CDK Global, CarGurus Partner on New Marketing Solutions


HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — CDK Global today announced a strategic relationship with online automotive marketplace CarGurus. Through this collaboration, users of CDK websites will gain exposure for their inventory on CarGurus.com as well as leads from CarGurus shoppers.

CDK will also leverage CarGurus’ anonymized, aggregated data in its suite of automotive digital marketing solutions, allowing the company to create personalized shopping experiences and cross-site consumer behavior attribution.

“We are excited to be able to offer our dealers more leads and more inventory exposure through CarGurus based on our new integration,” stated Max Steckler, product officer for CDK Global. “The CDK Customer Cloud becomes that much more powerful in being able to deliver more targeted and personalized messaging with the addition of CarGurus data.”

The integration also allows dealers to gain a more comprehensive understanding of anonymous in-market consumer behavior across the CDK website eco-system, the CarGurus.com website, and manufacturer, regional and group websites. Car dealers with CDK websites will now be able to precisely target personalized content on their own websites to interested shoppers who previously visited CarGurus – even if they never looked at a specific car on the dealer’s site.

CarGurus uses proprietary technology and data analytics to help shoppers search more than five million car listings and quickly identify great deals from top-rated dealers in their local areas. CarGurus.com now attracts more than 23 million monthly unique visitors in the United States, positioning CDK dealers to reach a significant audience of in-market shoppers.

“Car shoppers rely on CarGurus for transparency and validation, and we are excited to be working closely with CDK Global to enhance that experience,” stated Marty Blue, senior vice president of business development at CarGurus. “Through our relationship with CDK Global, we’re able to unleash even more power to assist shoppers and drive dealers’ business results.”

As an approved participant in the CDK Global Partner Program, CarGurus reporting will be integrated into the CDK Dealer Command Center. Dealers can expect the integrated solutions to be available in early October.

Top Closers Avoid Industry Jargon, CDK Global Finds


HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — CDK Global has found that the words dealers use in their email interactions with customers can have a strong effect on whether a lead will turn into a sale. Industry jargon, the company found, was not high on the list of words used by top performers.

In its “Language of Closers” research, CDK analyzed the email responses from auto dealers to pinpoint the words and phrases most likely to result in car sales, according to the company.

“People tend to assume that positive words like ‘love’ and ‘amazing’ will be the most persuasive to potential car shoppers,” said Jason Kessler, data scientist at CDK. “Our research found the opposite and proved that dealers who used proactive language articulating clear next steps for action in their email were the highest closers. Car shoppers need to be guided through the process and the research supported using language to help them on their journey.”

What the study found was the importance of guiding customers through the buying process. Phrases like “give me a” and “feel free to” were more often used by low-closers. Phrases that begin with those words, according to the study, were ineffective because they put the onus back on the shopper.

The word that most high closers used was “provide.” This word was used mostly in the context of sharing information, the study found. “Vehicle descriptions, details about the buying process and quotes all help the shopper gain a better understanding so they can feel secure in taking the next step,” the study stated.

Low closers also tended to use words like “body style” and “options.” The correlation between these words and low closers seemed to indicate that jargon and industry terms are not persuasive when used to answer shopper questions, according to the study.

“This research is exciting because it is so actionable,” said Kessler. “By focusing on communication styles that shoppers prefer, dealerships can improve their effectiveness and sell more cars.”

ADT Names 2016 Dealers’ Choice Award Winners


TORRANCE, Calif. — The publishers of Auto Dealer Today announced the winners of the 12th annual Dealers’ Choice Awards. The awards are based on a comprehensive survey that allowed dealers and dealership personnel to recognize their favorite vendors, suppliers and finance companies in 34 categories.

Voters must write in the name of each provider and score them in a number of areas related to performance, customer service, and the likelihood the voter would recommend each company to another dealer.

“This year’s winners include Dealers’ Choice Awards regulars as well as a number of new companies that have emerged as major players in a variety of categories,” said David Gesualdo, publisher of Auto Dealer Today and F&I and Showroom magazines. “But they all have one thing in common: They have earned the loyalty and praise of dealers, and they deserve our congratulations.”
